Millbrook Stars Novice Team Champions at their home Tournament
The Millbrook Stars Novice LL team has shown that they bleed Gold, Green and White after their gutsy performances over the weekend.  As host team of the annual MDMHA 2015-2106 Novice LL Tournament here in Millbrook, the team comprised of 15 highly skilled players made a strong showing in their first 2 games beating visitors from Ennismore  (Ennismore Eagles)  and Whitby (Whitby Blackhawks) to qualify for Sunday’s Championship game at the Needler’s Mill location.

Game 1 against Ennismore was a 7-4 victory for the Stars, with some great defensive highlights made by all the team.  William S and Landon K had particularly great defensive games while forward Cooper S led the offensive fury with 4 goals.  Singles by Brycen B, Garrett J, and Owen H rounded out The Stars scoring….with the whole team making contributions.

In their second game of the tournament against the Whitby Blackhawks, Millbrook had to come from behind.  Going down 2 to nothing in the First….the Stars never lost composure and rallied in the second to tie the game at 2 a piece.  The third period saw the Stars take control scoring 3 more to win the game with a final score of 5 to 3.  Tristan L. helped lead the come back with a hat trick.  Cooper S and Brycen B added singles in the victory.  Solid defense was provided by all, with Braden D. having a particularly strong game.

This set the stage for a Sunday evening at 5pm Championship game squaring off against the Durham Crusaders. The Crusaders and Stars have shared a rivalry since last season when the Stars eliminated them in the Three County Hockey League Playoff Championship series. The Crusaders, however, had gotten the better of the Stars in all matches this season.   The Stars turned this around in the Championship match.  Millbrook jumped out to 2 nothing lead on goals by Tristan L. and Cooper S. in the opening period.   The Crusaders rallied in the second, cutting the lead in half less than 2 minutes into the period….but 4 minutes later Tristan L scored the eventual Game Winner.   Star’s goaltender Jayden M was solid in backstopping the stars to the 3 -2 final and the Gold Medals.

Head Coach Kaury Jones and the entire volunteer Coaching Staff is extremely pleased with progress that the team is making this season. “Hard work, commitment and dedication to the sport has been demonstrated and is definitely the recipe for their success” Jones said.   “Seeing a team of 8 year olds feel like Champions is very rewarding” he added.
