15 STAR hockey players from Millbrook spent this past weekend playing in the 52nd Annual Golden Puck Hockey Tournament in Port Colbrone and winning 5 straight games to become the Tournament Novice Champions!

Game 1 on Friday morning saw the Millbrook Stars face off against the Ayr Flames.  Despite a goal less first period, Millbrook found its stride in the second and third period, eventually winning the game 6 to 1.  Goals were scored by O. Game 2 was played Saturday morning, with Millbrook facing one of the host teams from Port Colborne.  The Stars team made a strong showing winning 7 to 0.  On their way to recording Millbrook goalie J. Metcalf's first of 2 shut outs for the tournament, strong defensive play in front of him certainly helped.  Goal scoring was C. Stephenson with 2, G. Jones with 2, and M. Berardi, O. Hunter and B. Borden adding singles.  Assists in the game went to T. Lehmann (3), G. Fisher (2), L. Kirkwood and W. Simpson each setting up goals from defence.

Game 3, Saturday afternoon pitted the Stars against another of the host teams.  Millbrook once again was too much to handle winning the game 6-0. Among the many highlights of the game was a hat trick scored by T. Lehmann (3).  M. Berardi (1)  and B. Borden (2)  also notched goals.   Assists went to C. Stephenson, G. Fisher, T. Hammond, L. Kirkwood (2), M. Field, B. Donoghue and W. Simpson.

With this win, Millbrook earned a semi-final berth for Sunday morning.

In the Semi's, Millbrook was up against the First Place team from Pool C action, the Lincoln Blades Dodge Caravan Blue Local League team.  Once again, Millbrook played dominant hockey beating the Lincoln team 5 - 1 and securing their position in the Championship game.  Goals were scored by C. Stephenson (2), B. Borden (1), T. Lehmann (1) and M. Berardi (1).  Assists came from T. Lehmann (2), M. Field, B. Borden, G. Fisher, W. Simpson, R. Dears and G. Jones.

The Championship game was played at 2:30 Sunday afternoon and saw the Stars facing the Pelham Hockey Local League Green team.

In a final full of excitement, and even a penalty shot, Millbrook got out to a 2-0 lead, with both goals being scored by C. Stephenson....the first was assisted by T. Lehmann and L. Kirkwood.  His second goal was unassisted as it was scored on a penalty shot when he was pulled down from behind while on a break away.

The Pelham team then rallied to score 2 straight goals to tie up the game.

Millbrook bounced back scoring early in the third period to restore their lead.  And once again it was C. Stephenson scoring, to complete his hat trick.  Assisted by G. Jones and T. Lehmann.

G. Jones added another goal to secure Millbrook's championship, assisted by B. Borden and T. Lehmann in the game that ended 4-2 in the Star's favour.

It was an exciting weekend of hockey and fun for all the players and their families.

Bench Staff, Coach Kaury Jones, Asst. Coaches Paul Berardi and Charlie Berardi, Trainer, Chris Fisher and Team Manager Brian Field applaud the boys efforts throughout their play over the weekend.  They are true testaments to what comraderie and hard work can result in. Great work boys!
