Midget Team Invades Ottawa
This Valentines/Family day weekend saw the Millbrook Stars Midget team invade our nations capital. About half the team left Millbrook on Thursday to start the weekend early by taking in an Ottawa Senators game. Everyone had a fantastic time. The rest of the team arrived Friday to compete in the 12th Annual Capital House League tournament.

Their first game wasn't quite as good as the games we've watched the team play lately, I think some of our players were pretty tired from the long drive and could have used a little rest before stepping on the ice. It was late in the 2nd when Millbrook got on the board with a goal from Eric Smith assisted by Bryce Gray. It looked like Millbrook was going to hold on for a win until the opposition tied it up with under 2 mins remaining, but were we able to hold on for a tie earning 1 point.

Game number two was much better, with Millbrook capitalizing on 2 power play goals. The first was again the combo of Eric and Bryce, but this time was also assisted by Nathan Szilagyi. The second goal was scored was by Bryce with an assist from Eli Guzik. Their first win and 2 more points!

Their 3rd game was later Saturday evening with the team knowing it was a must win as their opponent had 2 wins going into it. We could tell this team wasn't going to go down easy and the game remained scoreless until a goal from Trey Gordon assisted by Courtney Cathcart got Millbrook on the board. The fans were all on pins and needles as we knew a 1 goal lead wasn't enough after our Friday game. Unfortunately we were also missing our top scorer Dawson VanBeek who had injured himself in our morning game. It was decided to move a defence-man up to wing to replace him and it turned out to be a good move as late in the 2nd period Nick Greber passed back to his usual defence partner Ryan Burgess who sent a blistering shot past the goalie to give Millbrook a 2-0 lead that would hold out and give us the 2 points we needed to win our division and move on to the Quarter Finals also earning Devon VanBeek his first shutout of the tournament.

Sunday morning arrived for a very early 8:15am game for the Midgets and we could tell it was going to be a tough game against Stittsville.    Those players were huge and were only 98/99 birth years while 1/3 of our Millbrook team is also Minor Midget with a 2000 birth year. While everyone was pretty sleepy the first period went well with Millbrook holding them off until 30 seconds left in the first when Stittsville scored. Unfortunately things didn't get any better in the 2nd and despite all Millbrooks efforts things just didn't go their way.

We are all still very proud of our small town kids who competed well against teams from much larger centres. Millbrook finished in the top 6 out of 32 teams and can hold their heads high knowing that they represented their community proudly. Go Stars Go!!!!
