2020/21 season update
Submitted By Chris Mclean on Tue 09 22, 20
The board would like to thank all of the MDMHA members for your continued patience while we plan our Return to hockey. As you can imagine, there are several moving pieces while creating a plan to return to hockey in coordination with the Township of Cavan Monaghan, Township of Hamilton, Peterborough Public Health Unit, OHMA and other hockey associations, while ensuring our young stars have the best possible experience, within the limitations set upon us, is a monumental task.

We realize that there are some questions of what our current status is so we wanted to keep you up to date. We currently are:

Solidifying the player and team numbers

It looks like we may still need some coaches for a couple of divisions so if you haven’t filled out a volunteer form please do so

We appreciate all the Coaches who have signed up and they will be contacted over the next couple of weeks

We have written our Return to Play Plan are just awaiting: Both townships facility plans that need to be included in our plan in order to submit to the public health unit for approval and then OMHA for their approval

A couple of members of the board will be attending a Local League meeting in Peterborough county in hopes to coordinate a partnership with other centers with complimenting team numbers so that we have centers to play games with if/when we reach Stage 3C.

With the information received at that meeting the board will select the teams appropriately based on our go forward plan – Note teams have NOT been selected at this time.

Phase One (Ice and walking track) opening of the CMCC is currently set for Oct 13th and our goal is to be on the ice as close to that date as possible, but will be limited by the approval process of our Return to Play Plan by the health unit and the OMHA

We have received one question several times in the past two weeks and we also thought it would be appropriate to highlight the answer in this communication.

Q: Why are the registration cost the same if we are at just practicing and don’t know if/when we will be playing games?

A: The registration costs are the same due to the lower number of players on each team, more teams needing ice time, while ice time cost are staying the same. It is our goal that the players will have the same number of hours per week on their home ice as previous years, the only likely reduction is away games, which we do not pay for.   CORRECTION: Costs have actually increased slightly

We hope that this update is helpful and more updates will be coming as we progress, we hope to see you at the rink soon.
