NEW TO HOCKEY 2025/26

So your child has decided they want to try hockey!  Or as is the case for most young kids, they don't really know much about hockey, but you'd like them to give it a try.

MDMHA welcomes new players at all age groups.  Even if your child has 'missed' the first few years when kids typically start playing, it is not too late to get them involved in the game.  Every year, we have new players at almost all age groups (not just U5, U7, etc.).  Kids learn fast and you'll be amazed at how quickly they can develop, given the right encouragement.

What to do now?

The Millbrook & District Minor Hockey Association (MDMHA) offers both Local League (LL) and Representative (Rep) hockey to residents of the Millbrook and surrounding area.  We will have teams in every age division for the 2024-25 season, including the following:

  • U5 (Born in 2021 or earlier)
  • U7 (Born in 2019, 2020)
  • U9 (Born in 2017, 2018)
  • U11 (Born in 2015, 2016)
  • U13 (Born in 2013, 2014)
  • U15 (Born in 2011, 2012)
  • U18 (Born in 2009, 2009, 2010)

The U5 program is a fun, skill based learning program that will get the kids on the ice, comfortable in their equipment and starting to learn the game of hockey.  This group doesn't travel or play against teams from other centres.  They are on the ice approximately twice a week throughout the season, with breaks at Christmas and March break.

The U7 age division will do skill based practices until mid-November and then begin to play half-ice games against other teams within the Three County Hockey League.

The U9 age division will do skill-based practices until around the end of October, and then begin to play half-ice games against other teams within the Three County Hockey League.  Starting mid-January, U9 players will play regular, full-ice games for the remainder of the season.

The U11, U13, U15, and U18 age divisions consist of both Local League and Representative teams.  Local league teams play against other teams within the Three County Hockey League.  Representative teams play within the Victoria Durham League.

In the event that we have more than one Local League team at an age division, the skill level of the teams will be evenly balanced.
