Your Millbrook Stars hosted those other Stars for a Tuesday night donnybrook
at the Cavan-Monahan Community Centre.
The first period was an evenly matched, back-and-forth affair. Both
tenders were tested in this frame and were, evidently, up to the
challenge. Millbrook goalie, Wynn
Jennings, shut the door on a five-on-three penalty kill late in the frame to
keep the score 0-0 as the period ended.
The Green-and-White continued to battle in the second frame, yet the
score remained 0-0 for most of the period – that is, until forward Connor Adams
came in like a wrecking ball. Adams, rushing the puck short-handed, bulled his
way deep into the zone through heavy pressure and managed to go bardown from in
tight for a gorgeous opening tally for Millbrook.
That marker seemed to allow Millbrook to settle into their game to some
degree. Part way through the third, the boys added to their lead when defenceman
Ryerson Stinson directed a seeing-eye-shot towards the net that found some
twine. Finally, centreman Simon Gillespie purchased some term insurance
coverage with a power play marker following some quality puck movement by
Dunlop and Carney.
Newcastle managed to break the shut-out bid, scoring with just forty-one
seconds left in the game – but too little, too late - make the final: 3-1, in
favour of your Millbrook Stars.
To this writer’s eyes, the story of the game was the stellar performance
by keeper Wynn Jennings. Jennings faced a good amount of rubber on this evening,
including several high-danger chances, but was near-perfect on this day,
willing his team to victory.
Next up, the distinguished gentlemen will take their travelling show to
the McKinney Centre in Whitby on Saturday, February 8, 11:00 am for a dust-up
with the Durham Crusaders. Join us for the best show in town! Limited tickets still available.
Go Stars Go.
