Wielding green and white flags, their lances and shields in tow, your
Millbrook Stars entered the McKinney Centre on their noble steeds, keen for a
Saturday morning joust with the Durham Crusaders.
The boys were ready for this one. In fact, prior to the game, the boys
could be heard saying “Strength and Honour” to each other, before entering the
great arena. Indeed, when the puck dropped, the Stars went for an immediate
charge. Forward Emery Warrick, who clearly ate a well-balanced breakfast on
this day, drew first blood in a dominant opening shift. Two minutes later,
centreman Simon Gillespie followed up with a marker of his own – a short-handed
tally, no less. Finally, to close the period the way it began, Warrick struck
again, giving the Stars a commanding 3-0 advantage after one period of play.
Showing no mercy, the Stars thundered to the attack early in the second
frame. Elijah Dunlop and Simon Gillespie struck fifteen seconds apart, and
Millbrook found themselves up 5-0. To their credit - after being knocked off
their horses - the Crusaders dusted themselves off, and struck late in the
period, closing the frame down 5-1.
But a counterattack was not in the cards. Warrick - an absolute
gladiator, shift-in and shift-out today - buried his third of the contest
midway through the period, before staring down the crowd and shouting “Are you
not entertained?”. For good measure,
Lochlan Pherrill added one more, and Millbrook clinched the competition with an
impressive 7-2 victory.
In net, keeper Andrew Collins was up to the challenge when called upon.
A memorable, Grant Fuhr-esque, windmill style glove save stands out as
highlight worthy. (For the younger readers – maybe, Marc-Andre Fleury-esque?).
The defence – Brown, Harris, Harrigan, Carney, and Hilton – all deserve
recognition for protecting the castle well. Usual defender, Ryerson Stinson,
showed his versatility by moving up to forward and performed admirably, as the
team was down two attackers for this game.
Overall, this was a complete team effort by the boys. Full marks for an
aggressive attack in which they displayed plenty of horsepower and weaponry.
Next up, the Green-and-White clash with the Kawartha Coyotes for a
premium experience at the Emily-Omemee Community Centre, this coming Tuesday,
February 11 at 8:00pm. This is sure to be a sold-out event. We hope you can
join us.
Go Stars Go.
