Your Millbrook Stars travelled to Newcastle this evening for a Stars vs
Stars hootenanny at the Newcastle Memorial Arena. It didn’t quite have a Canada
vs U.S.A vibe, but Millbrook nonetheless rolled up their sleeves and went to
work.
The Verdoch/Poole/Rose line got the ball rolling early with forward Owen
Verdoch sending a low wrister through the Newcastle keeper off a Ryerson
Stinson feed. Defenceman Stinson followed up a few minutes later, lighting the
lamp on a seeing-eye shot from the point. After Newcastle cut the lead in half,
Gillespie and Dunlop combined on a beautiful passing play, where Gillespie teed
one up for Dunlop to snap home for the 3-1 lead.
The Green Machine kept rolling in the second, with forward Carter Rose
tipping a Liam Carney slapshot just past the Newcastle keeper to make it 4-1.
Shortly thereafter, centreman Kasen Poole decided to take matters into his own
hands, steamrolling up the ice, through the defenders, before lifting a
gorgeous backhander into the twine. Gillespie and Dunlop connected once more,
and Millbrook went into the 2nd intermission with a commanding 6-2
lead.
The third period was largely uneventful. Goalkeeper Wynn Jennings was
solid when tested, and the defensive pairings of Harris/Harrigan,
Carney/Hilton, and Brown/Stinson, once again performed admirably in limiting
the Newcastle attack.
Make the final: 6 – 2 in favour of your Millbrook Stars.
Next up, the fellas travel to Whitby for a dosey-doe with the Durham
Crusaders. Puck drop is 12:00pm on Saturday, February 22, at the McKinney
Centre. Limited standing room is available. We hope to see you there.
Go Stars Go.
