Wasaga Beach Regional Silver Stick 2025
Tournament Rules and Format
Sanctioning and Applicable Rules
The Wasaga Beach Regional Silver Stick 2025 tournament is sanctioned by the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA), and all OMHA rules apply. In addition to these, the following specific and additional rules govern the tournament.
Scheduling and Team Readiness
The tournament schedule is final upon completion; no changes or alterations will be made. Teams must be prepared and ready to play all scheduled games. Failure to do so for any reason will result in forfeiture of the game, with a default score of 2-0 against the offending team. If a game is forfeited, the team responsible will lose any points previously earned from that match.
Team Registration and Documentation
Team officials are required to check in 45 minutes prior to their first scheduled game. The tournament Director or designated delegate will be available at the registration desk, located upstairs in the Rotary Room. Each approved team will receive access to their Silver Stick International team web page, where they must upload the OMHA-approved roster and travel permit at least seven days before the tournament. Teams should also bring paper copies of their roster, travel permit, and the approved At Large List, if applicable.
Gamesheet and Team Participation
Gamesheet Inc. will be used for official tournament records. Only players and bench staff listed on the approved team roster are permitted to participate. All teams must upload their roster to Gamesheet, which requires an invite code provided by the tournament. If a team does not have the code, it should be requested during registration prior to the first game. Bench staff may only sign in if they are listed on the approved roster.
Jersey Colours and Game Preparation
Home teams are required to wear light-coloured jerseys, while away teams must wear dark-coloured jerseys. All teams must be ready to play at least 15 minutes before the scheduled game time. Bench staff must sign in at least 30 minutes prior to each game at the registration table, located in the Rotary Room (Tournament Office), where iPads will be available for sign-in.
Participant Pins
Championship and participant pins are limited to 20 per team.
Penalties and Suspensions
Any player or team official who receives a match penalty, gross misconduct penalty, or game misconduct penalty for fighting will be automatically suspended from further participation in the tournament. This suspension includes being on the bench, in the team dressing room, or on the ice.
Authority and Conduct
The referee’s decision is final. The tournament Director or their delegate will make the final decision regarding any tournament matters. The Silver Stick Director or delegate reserves the right to remove any player, parent, or spectator from the building for misbehaviour, verbal abuse, fighting, or disrupting the tournament.
Game Procedure
Each team is permitted one 30-second timeout per game. If a goal differential of 5 or more is reached after the second period of any game, the clock will switch to run time. If the differential drops to 3 goals, the clock will revert to stop time. Penalties assessed during run time will be served as is.
Dressing Room Policy
Dressing rooms will be assigned by facility staff, and teams are responsible for obtaining their assigned room fob. Teams are advised to keep their dressing rooms locked when not in use and maintain cleanliness for subsequent teams. Any issues should be reported to facility staff, and the offending team will be responsible for any damages incurred.
Tournament Format
Divisions of Ten Teams
All age divisions consist of ten teams and will play three games. These divisions consist of three pools: two pools of three teams each will cross over to play the teams in the other pool, while the third pool of four teams will play against each other within the pool. Round robin play will determine each team's ranking based on points earned.
Round Robin Scoring and Advancement
· Win: 2 points
· Tie: 1 point
· Loss: 0 points
The top four teams, based on points or tiebreaker rules and regardless of pool, will advance to the semi-final games. Semi-finals will be played as 1st vs 4th and 2nd vs 3rd.
Tiebreaker Rules
1. Highest Differential Percentage (Goals For / (Goals For + Goals Against))
2. Fewest Total Goals Against
3. Most Total Goals For
4. Fewest Total Penalty Minutes
5. Shortest Time to Score First Goal in Team’s First Game
Overtime and Shootout Procedure
If a semi-final or championship game ends in a tie, a 5-minute sudden victory overtime period with stop time will be played (5-on-5 unless penalties dictate otherwise). Goalies will switch ends as in the second period. If the game remains tied after overtime, a shootout will determine the winner:
· Each team selects five different shooters (not including players removed from the game or serving a penalty at the end of overtime).
· Shooters alternate attempts at opposite ends of the ice.
· If still tied after 10 shooters, any eligible player may participate, except those excluded by infractions. Shootout continues simultaneously until one player is successful and the player is not, at scoring, at the same interval.
