This past weekend the Millbrook Midget LL team travelled to Dorchester, ON for their 1st tournament of the season. Friday night provided a rough start for the Midgets with a 3-0 loss to their local rivals the Manvers Mustangs. Unfortunately our players left their usual get up and go in Millbrook and were not able to get the puck past the Manvers goalie. Our substitute goalie for our 1st game Eli Guzik did a fantastic job in net. He only let in 3 goals in the 1st period and had a shut out for the 2nd and 3rd periods. It was nice to see after the game that our Captain James Horner and Assistant Captains, Dawson Vanbeek, Nick Greber and Ryan Burgess all joined coach Dale Power in congratulating the very tiny Manvers team on their win. Great sportsmanship Millbrook!!!
Day two saw the Captain and assistants call a team meeting of the players to discuss their loss the night before and to spur on the team to perform like the team they have been for the majority of the season thus far. It absolutely worked, because their 1st game on Saturday morning saw them get a 5-2 win over Listowel with our other substitute goalie Michael Fallis in net. All players really stepped up their game, working hard to drive the net and put goals up on the scoreboard, but at the same time protecting their goalie and keeping shots to a minimum. It was a fantastic turnaround from the night before. Carrying that momentum into their 9pm game once again we saw a fantastic team game from the midgets. Unfortunately they were up against the Dorchester home team who seemed to get stronger as the tournament progressed. The Stars played their hearts out and Michael once again did a fantastic job in net, unfortunately in ended in a 3-0 loss to the team that ultimately won the tournament. MVP's for the 3 games were Eli, Trey Gordon and Michael. Considering we were the only Midget team playing without their regular goalie, I would consider this weekend a success. I'm sure all the players are now looking forward to our home tournament in the new year. The Millbrook Mid-Winter classic will take place the weekend of Feb. 5-7. All are welcome to come a cheer on the home team! Go Stars Go!!!
